About the CCC GIS Collaborative Team

This team grew out of the recognition of our members' common interests and needs in having a set of maps and geographic data to support various programs within California's community colleges.  This collaborative by no means represents all of the GIS activities in the CCC System, but this web site is intended as an open resource for all such activities.

The founding members met in the autumn of 2005 at the suggestion of the Research and Planning Group for California Community Colleges.  The collaboration continues to grow, with participants coming from education organizations and colleges throughout the State of California.

California Community College Systems Office

The Founding of the Collaborative was prompted by a request from the California Community College Systems Office.  In addition to overall project support, the Systems Office was instrumental in making a request to all CCC districts to provide written legal descriptions to support the development and validation of the original set of district maps.

The Foundation for California Community Colleges

A founding member, the Foundation for California Community Colleges provides planning, budgeting and program management support.  In cooperation with San Joaquin Delta College, the Foundation developed and maintains the Collaborative's web site and associated mapping tools.

The Research and Planning Group for California Community Colleges

The Research and Planning Group for California Community Colleges initiated the mapping of the college district boundaries.  Its members completed nearly 50% of the maps before partnering with the CCC Systems Office and the FCCC.  The RP Group continues to provide research and project based support for the next phase of implementation.

The California Partnership for Achieving Student Success

The California Partnership for Achieving Student Success provides review and coordination of the maps developed by the GIS Collaborative
