Zip Code Enrollment, Population Growth & Employment - Monday, June 22, 2009

To help community college users explore the overlapping patterns of regional college enrollments, population and population growth and employment patters, three interactive maps are now avaiable.

As you explore your college district, remember to use in the "i" (information) icon to view tabular data for the top-most map layer.  To view data for a specific layer, turn off (remove the check mark) for any layers above the layer of interest.  The information command will return data for the next map region checked.

To tally multiple groups of table data, select 'Add to Results,' and the data details will be collected in the top of the table of contents, found on the left side of the map.

The Regions and Land Use interactive map includes the square miles for all college districts, two different district regional systems used by the California Community College Chancellor's Office, legislative districts, county boundaries, K-12 districts and urban areas.  With so many layers, this first version can take several seconds to load, but by keeping these layers together in a single map, users can easily assess the overlap of these regions with the community college districts.

Campus Polygons Added and District Boundaries Updated - Monday, May 04, 2009

For the first time, a state wide set of California community college campus polygons are available for viewing and for download (see Documents page).  The campus area maps are draft status.  Review and comment from the community college research and GIS community is encouraged.

The campus polygons were used to calculate geometric centroids for each campus, and these centroids replace previous campus point data that was based on an address look up that was not accurate for all campuses when viewed at street level.  Included in the revision is a correction to the Campus ID (CID) number for the College of San Mateo: CID=372 not 472 as previously reported.

Finally, this update includes two corrections to the college district boundary maps.  The district names of Ohlone and Gavilan were transposed.  These districts are now shown correctly, with Ohlone Community College District (CCD) being north of Gavilan CCD.
